This weekend has been busy and, because I didn’t have to work (I did have to work parts of the last two weekends), it seemed like a lot more time was available to me. I felt free and played guitar, trumpet, music on my stereo, and did lots of other things (even did some reading for school….need to do more of that!). I also worked out a lot.
I normally listen to jazz when I work out, whether I’m out walking the dog or in the gym, lifting weights. Today I chose an album I just heard this weekend, Four Tet’s Sixteen Oceans. I ran into Four Tet while looking for Thom Yorke-project remixes, and Four Tet had done a song by Yorke’s group Atoms for Peace. This album surprised me by being more hard-driving than the Atoms for Peace cover/remix was, but I had no realistic view of what Four Tet’s music was like.
I’ve been hitting the spin-bikes at the gym lately, doing half-hour advanced-beginner workouts. I’m not in great shape, just average, so it’s a challenge for me—but I do it and enjoy having done it. Sixteen Oceans had the gusto that helped me keep up my spirits through a couple of tough stretches. There are some really tasty tracks on this album, and I will be listening to more Four Tet this week.
