You like music. Maybe you love music. Maybe you make music. I write about music, about listening to music on good-quality gear, most of all. I tell about my experiences listening in my own words, not cribbing from a glossary of audiophile jargon terms (as much as I can manage to avoid them; “soundstage” is one you’ll see a lot).
I also write about what’s involved in listening to music—as far as I’m able to practice it myself.
Unlike some audio bloggers, no companies are sending me gear to review. I don’t get any of the items for free. I am telling you what I think about gear that I have or have managed to borrow temporarily. Hence, I have no ulterior motive in praising a pair of headphones. Not everything I say here may pan out for you, as you listen to music. I’m cognizant of differences in hearing and interpretation among music listeners and wouldn’t claim that my way of listening or my way of hearing is “the” way.
You are a person whose destiny is tied more tightly to music than perhaps almost anything else. This is true regardless of who you are. Music is central to the stories of humanity up to and including today. Listening to music can’t always be shared—and sometimes needs to be done in a solitary way. Lurkers are welcome. The pages here will ask and tell of music; how I listen, how I hear, what I use for listening and hearing; and will discuss such things as what, if there is one, is the difference between listening and hearing. I have an engineering background and can follow much of the science and tech that go with music listening. I study philosophy and will apply myself to pursuing a human examination of the experiences I have of listening to music and trying out audio equipment.
